3 STEPS TO BECOMING A MORNING PERSON

Hi everyone! Welcome back to The Dairy Free Diaries. Hope you are having a great day and are excited for this week’s blog post. I am going to gives you guys my top 3 tips to becoming a morning person. For someone who has been consistently waking up at 5am and truly enjoying it, I have acquired some great advice to give to those who want to be early birds.

TIP #1: MAKE SURE YOU ARE GETTING ENOUGH SLEEP

I cannot stress how important the right amount of sleep is for anything, but especially when it comes to productivity in the morning. If you aren’t well rested, you will be extremely unmotivated to get out of bed and end up sleeping in. I have been in this same place, forcing myself to get up early when I am running on only 5-6 hours of sleep.

And even though some days I got up; I was too tired to do anything productive. I am sure a lot of you guys have experienced this from time to time, but if you want to change the pattern it all starts with sleep. The right amount of sleep is different for each and every person, but it is suggested to get at least 7-8 hours consistently.

For me, 8 hours is the sweet spot for me, but I know many people who only need 7 and others who need 9-10. It honestly just depends on your lifestyle so it’s important to make an effort to find what amount of sleep works best for you. Not only is how long you sleep important, but so is your consistency with a sleeping schedule.

It’s important to find a sleeping schedule that you can consistently stick to throughout the week. For example, I need to be up by 5am each morning, so in order to get 8 hours of sleep I need to be asleep by 9pm. This schedule fits perfectly with my other commitments and gives me plenty of time to get things done.

The more often you stick to your sleeping schedule, the more your body adjusts to the early morning wake ups, and the easier it becomes. When you wake up early, you will feel well-rested and more motivated to get out of bed and start your day. It is the first step to becoming a morning person.

TIP #2: FIND SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO IN THE MORNING

When you want to make any change, you need to find motivation from somewhere to do so. Becoming a morning person is no different. It is so important to find that thing that’s going to get you up and out of your warm and cozy bed when you’re feeling tired.

It can be a tangible object, like a cup of coffee, or it can be a motivational saying. It all depends on what is going to get you out of that bed. For me, it’s a good early morning workout. I have been focusing on choosing workouts that make me feel good afterwards and that is all the motivation I need.

I have found is extremely important on finding what make you feel good. Focus on what gives you that good feeling and go with it. I also find that having more than one motivator helps as well. I also really look forward to taking a nice refreshing shower, eating a yummy breakfast, and my journal routine.

Whatever this may look like for you, use it. And you can do this by constantly reminding yourself of that thing you are looking forward to. This little bit of happy feelings is what is going to allow you to change your mindset and actually enjoy waking up early. It forms this cycle in your brain where whenever you do a specific action, waking up early, there is a reward. And this is what will kepp you consistent.

TIP #3: TAKE TIME THE NIGHT BEFORE TO PREP

I can honestly say that prepping is half the battle when it comes to becoming someone who actually enjoys waking up early. If you wake up and have to get a bunch of things together before you can start your day, you will be way less motivated to get out of bed.

You feel like there is so much to actually do that you would rather just stay in bed and deal with it later. I have been through this and I am sure many of you guys have too. It creates a habitual pattern, but the good news is that we can break it! I have figured out that taking 10-15 mins the night before to prep make a huge difference.

And the good thing is that everyone has 10-15 mins to spare. For me prepping looks like putting out my workout clothes, writing out my list of tasks for the next day, and having a general idea of the meals I am going to eat that day. I recommend going through what you want to do the next day and find as many things that you can prepare.

And by doing so, this eliminates the busy work in the morning so that once you leave your bed you can immediately start your day, with no distractions or excuses. By taking the time to prep, you are doing just that; preparing yourself to kill the next day.
